Sunrise Corridor (Summer Only)

At 6,400 feet (1,950 meters), Sunrise is the highest point you can drive to in Mount Rainier National Park.

This high-elevation area offers close-up views of Mount Rainier and its massive glaciers. Due to heavy snow, the road to Sunrise only opens from early July through early September. Summer day tours from Seattle often prioritize this section when it is accessible.

Visiting Sunrise means entering an alpine tundra environment. Weather changes fast here, so bring layers and a windbreaker. The high elevation also increases UV exposure, making sunscreen and sunglasses necessary.
